Cuban ballet dancers
These images were shot at the Cuban Ballet Nacional where, from a very young age, students view their position at the school as a great privilege. They practice in the Teatro Garcia Lorca in central Havana. This is a wonderful old building with a classic faded elegance. However, it is one that is in a poor state of repair – rough, splintery boards are the surfaces on which these young dancers wear holes in their shoes, watching themselves in broken and spotted mirrors in the heat of the Havana day. Briefly observing and recording their dedication and hard work I found to be a very moving experience and one for which I was very grateful.
